COVID-19: UPDATE 01 November 2020
Following the advice of our professional body and regulator, we can confirm that Unity Wellness Clinic remains fully OPEN for Osteopathy appointments and will be doing so during the current lockdown.
Osteopaths are currently permitted to open up their face-to-face consultations for people who:
- cannot be helped remotely
- do not have any symptoms of COVID-19
- are not self isolating due to exposure to someone who has tested positive
An osteopathic consultation requires the osteopath and patient coming closer than two metres, so we need to discuss the risks and benefits of a face-to-face consultation before we book an appointment. We will briefly discuss your reason for coming, current general health and any vulnerabilities you or someone in your household may have. Please inform us if you have been advised to ‘shield’. We will also explain our infection control policy, which includes PPE and other changes to the way we work to ensure that you do not have contact with anyone except your osteopath. This will help you to make an informed decision about coming to see us in the clinic.
Throughout lockdown we have remained open, offering a significantly reduced service in the early stages. Initially we helped most of our patients remotely, with face-to-face consultations only for people who needed urgent or essential treatment, including key workers.
We have carefully considered the risks to our patients, ourselves and the households of our patients and osteopaths. With this in mind the following applies:
If you would like to book an appointment

If you are attending an appointment
- You must read our up-to-date hygiene policy (below).
- You should arrive on time and wait outside Iceni Training in your car, to enable distancing from other patients.
- Our Osteopaths will collect you from your car and check your temperature prior to entering the clinic.
Our promise to you
Our osteopaths will all travel to the clinic without using public transport.
They will follow the 7 or 14 day self isolation if they, or a member of their household, become symptomatic. This means that even if we offer you an appointment, we may need to rearrange it if your osteopath is unable to come in. If your osteopath becomes unavailable, we will try to offer you an alternative osteopath locally as soon as possible.
If you have an appointment confirmed to attend, it will be scheduled to minimise the likelihood of meeting another patient in the building.
Please arrive on time. Your osteopath will end the consultation promptly to help you leave the clinic before the next patient arrives and to enable us to sanitise the clinic.

Our Hygiene Policy
We are reviewing our practice hygiene policy daily based on the most recent Public Health England advice, so this may change.
We are following Healthcare Regulators’ recommendations to help limit person-to-person transmission in healthcare settings. This is particularly important because our patients include a small number of potentially vulnerable adults and children. With the precautions we have put in place we believe there is low risk of transmission within the clinic. You may continue to attend your appointment unless any of the following applies to you.
When not to attend
If you develop a fever, a new cough, shortness of breath or loss/change to taste or smell prior to your appointment, you must not attend. You must also not attend if you have been advised to quarantine for any other reason. If you already have an appointment, please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel it.
Current advice is to stay at home for 7 days if you have a high fever, a new continuous cough, shortness of breath or loss/change to taste or smell. If someone you live with has symptoms you need to stay at home for 14 days from the day the first person in the home started showing symptoms. If you develop symptoms, please don’t go to your GP, pharmacy or hospital. There will be no late cancellation fee for anyone not attending for COVID-19 related reasons, but we ask that you let us know and are grateful for as much notice as possible. If you do not attend an appointment without giving notice, we reserve the right to charge the full fee.
Test and Trace
For the purpose of Test and Trace, we have been advised that Unity Wellness Clinic is classified as a healthcare setting. If you are required to pass on details of your recent contacts to Test and Trace you should therefore categorise your visit to the clinic as ‘healthcare’ rather than ‘general’ contact.
What we are doing
We will continue to wash our hands before and after seeing each patient. Following Public Health England guidance for all healthcare practitioners, we use an appropriate level of PPE: we will put on a mask when we come closer to you than the social distancing guidelines recommendation. Between treating each patient, we are changing any clothes that may have had direct contact with them.
All adults and older children will be provided with a single use facemask should you not bring a clean one with you. We request that you wear it when we are in close contact. The Practice is temporarily charging a £2 surcharge for each visit to cover the cost of PPE and materials related to the extra hygiene measures we are taking for the duration that this is necessary.
We will be regularly disinfecting surfaces and ‘often touched areas’ such as door handles, taps etc. Treatment tables and chairs will be disinfected between each patient and we have removed all towels in the clinic.
We have the option of online payments and contactless.
If any of our osteopaths have any of the above symptoms, any feelings of unwellness that could indicate COVID-19 or have been instructed to self isolate, we won’t be working. If this affects your appointment, we will let you know as soon as possible and try to provide the option to see a colleague during their absence.
What you can do
Please don’t knock on the door until your exact appointment time or bring anyone else with you who doesn’t need to be there. Please wash your hands thoroughly upon arrival.
Only one parent per child should attend unless it is absolutely necessary, for example, a nurse-carer or another member of the household to assist someone who has had recent surgery. At this time we ask you not to bring siblings or children who are not being treated.
You may wish to bring your own toys and books for your children. If you are coming with a baby or child who requires a nappy, we request that you do not change the nappy in the building unless absolutely necessary.
